Caring For Miami

We are looking for helping hands to assist one of our grant recipients, Caring For Miami, with their backpack program on December 19th at 1:00 p.m. This is a Christian based program that serves over 1,200 hungry kids in 47 schools across Miami-Dade County each weekend providing 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners along with a note of encouragement and love. All we have to do is lend a helping hand to pack the backpacks with the food and notes. A typical packing event can last anywhere from 2-3 hours and will take place at the Ocean Reef Cultural Center Boardroom. We will pack up to 300 bags with meals that will go to children in title I schools that have been identified as "food insecure" which means these children typically will not eat a meal on the weekends because of financial and socioeconomic barriers at home. In fact, many of these children live in motels or cars so all the food is easy to prepare and doesn't require refrigeration.
