Please join us in welcoming The FIUnity Gospel Choir to the Ocean Reef Cultural Center on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  Under the direction of renowned gospel artist, Terence Clayton, the group performs a repertoire from the African-American tradition including hymns, anthems, and spirituals as well as contemporary Gospel music.  This complimentary concert is open to the entire Ocean Reef community and will feature a coffee reception afterwards.

The FIUnity Gospel Choir was started by Kate Longo, Florida International University’s School of Music Choral Director.  Their inaugural performance was just nine months ago at  the Wertheim Performing Arts Center in Miami and drew nearly 500 people.  Prior to this, Florida International University did not have a Gospel choir, but now the members stand at 35.  After hosting a handful of successful impromptu performances and public rehearsals in the spring, they are successfully bringing the message and soul of gospel music to the university community.  Today, FIUnity choir is offered as a course for credit for current students, and open to faculty, staff, Miami Dade College students and anyone else in the community who is interested-no prior singing experience required.  The choir features Eddie Howard and Keotis Williams, keyboards; Justin Howard and Tobias Nelson, drums; and James Hamilton, bass. Internationally renowned Gospel singer, instrumentalist, song writer and music director Terence Clayton is most admired for his soulful, contemporary yet classic, “Good time in Church” style. Over his enduring career this highly sought after Christian artist has shared the stage with Gospel giants such as Alvin Slaughter, Gary Oliver, Karen Wheaton, Dr. Bobby Jones, Marvin Sapp, Vickie Winans, Angelo & Veronica, Lashun Pace and many others who have recognized and enlisted his talents; talents honed through years of discipline.
